Why do men always make women…

When a Man Is Using a Woman, He Will Do These 9 Things

When a man is using a woman in an obvious way, the signs can sometimes be almost impossible to miss. He may repeatedly “forget” his wallet during dates that he was the one who asked her out for. He may suddenly become unavailable whenever she needs emotional support, yet somehow always find the time to call when he wants something from her. He may avoid spending meaningful time together after getting what he wanted, claiming that he has to “get up early in the morning,” even though that same excuse somehow never seems to apply when he wants something from her.

And sometimes, the situation can be even more obvious.

A man might constantly ask her for favors but rarely return them. He may expect her to drive him places, help him financially, solve his problems, or make sacrifices for him while giving very little in return. He may talk about how much he “cares” about her, but his actions repeatedly tell a completely different story.

When someone is blatantly using a woman, it can actually be easier for her to recognize what is happening and walk away. There is less confusion because the pattern is visible. She doesn’t have to spend months wondering whether his feelings are genuine because his behavior keeps providing the answer.

The difficult situations are often the ones where the behavior is subtle.

A man may not openly say that he is using her. In fact, he might insist that he loves her. He may send affectionate messages, give compliments, make promises about the future, and occasionally behave incredibly sweetly. That’s what can make the situation so confusing. The problem isn’t necessarily one isolated action. It’s the pattern that develops over time.

Here are nine behaviors that may indicate a man is taking advantage of a woman rather than genuinely valuing her.

1. He Only Appears When He Needs Something

One of the clearest warning signs is when communication seems to revolve around what he needs.

Maybe he calls when he needs a ride. Maybe he suddenly becomes affectionate when he wants money, a favor, attention, intimacy, or help with a personal problem. But when everything is going well for him, he can disappear for days.

A healthy relationship involves mutual effort. Both people should want to communicate because they enjoy each other’s company, not simply because one person has a request.

If you start noticing that every “Hey, how are you?” eventually turns into a favor, that’s worth paying attention to.

He may not even realize how obvious the pattern has become. He might believe that because he occasionally says something sweet or spends time with you, the relationship is balanced.

But affection shouldn’t be used as a currency.

You shouldn’t have to provide something in order to receive basic attention.

2. He Expects You to Pay for Everything

There is nothing inherently wrong with couples dividing expenses differently. Every relationship has its own financial arrangements, and sometimes one partner earns more than the other.

The issue is entitlement.

If he repeatedly expects you to pay while making little or no effort to contribute, that’s different.

Maybe he always “forgets” his wallet. Maybe he promises to pay you back but never does. Maybe he suddenly has financial problems every time the bill arrives. Or perhaps he becomes irritated whenever you suggest splitting the cost.

What’s especially concerning is when the person who contributes the least somehow expects the most.

A man who genuinely cares about a woman should at least recognize her effort. He should appreciate what she does and, when possible, try to contribute in his own way.

It doesn’t have to be exactly 50/50.

Relationships aren’t accounting spreadsheets.

But they should feel reciprocal.

3. He Is Affectionate When He Wants Something

Another major red flag is affection that appears only when he wants something.

He might suddenly become incredibly romantic before asking for a favor. He may send paragraphs about how special you are when he wants financial help. He might become unusually attentive when he wants intimacy, but immediately become distant afterward.

That can leave a woman feeling emotionally confused.

She may start wondering, “Does he really care about me, or does he only act this way when he wants something?”

Pay attention to what happens after he gets what he wants.

Does the warmth continue?

Does he still want to talk?

Does he still make plans?

Does he still ask about your day?

Does he still care about your feelings?

If the affection disappears immediately after his needs are satisfied, the pattern may be telling you something important.

4. He Doesn’t Make Real Effort to Know You

Someone who genuinely cares about you will usually want to understand you as a person.

They’ll want to know what makes you happy, what stresses you out, what your goals are, what you believe in, and what kind of future you want.

A man who is using a woman may be interested primarily in what she can provide rather than who she actually is.

He knows what you do for him, but doesn’t know much about your life.

He remembers the things that benefit him but forgets the things that matter to you.

He knows when you are available, but doesn’t know when you’re having a difficult day.

He knows what you can do for him, but doesn’t seem interested in what you need.

That’s an important distinction.

Being desired is not the same as being valued.

Someone can want your attention, your body, your money, your connections, your home, or your emotional support without truly appreciating you as a person.

5. He Disappears When You Need Him

This is where the imbalance often becomes impossible to ignore.

When he needs something, you’re expected to answer.

When he’s struggling, you’re supposed to listen.

When he has a problem, you’re there.

But when you’re the one having a difficult day, suddenly he’s busy.

When you’re upset, he doesn’t have time.

When you need support, he says you’re being “too emotional.”

When you need reassurance, he changes the subject.

A relationship cannot survive on one person’s emotional labor.

You shouldn’t constantly be the therapist, supporter, driver, problem-solver, financial safety net, and source of encouragement while receiving very little in return.

Being there for someone you love is a beautiful thing.

But being expected to carry someone who refuses to carry you when you need help is something completely different.

6. He Makes Promises but Rarely Follows Through

Words are easy.

Promises are easy.

“I’ll pay you back.”

“I’ll change.”

“I’ll make more time for you.”

“I’ll take you out next week.”

“I’ll be there for you.”

“I’ll make it up to you.”

But eventually, actions have to support those words.

If a man repeatedly makes promises whenever he wants to prevent you from leaving or becoming upset, but nothing ever changes afterward, pay attention.

One broken promise doesn’t automatically mean someone is using you. People make mistakes. Life gets complicated.

The concern is the repeated cycle:

He disappoints you.

You confront him.

He apologizes.

He promises to change.

You give him another chance.

Then the same thing happens again.

At some point, the apology stops being evidence of change and becomes part of the pattern.

7. He Keeps You Around but Avoids Commitment

Sometimes a man doesn’t want to lose access to a woman, but he also doesn’t want to build a real relationship with her.

He may want the benefits of having a girlfriend without accepting the responsibilities of being a partner.

He wants your loyalty but refuses to define the relationship.

He wants your attention but doesn’t want to give you reassurance.

He wants intimacy but avoids conversations about the future.

He may tell you, “Why do we need a label?” while simultaneously becoming jealous if you give anyone else attention.

This can create an exhausting situation where the woman feels emotionally committed while the man remains conveniently uncommitted.

If someone consistently wants the privileges of a relationship without the responsibility that comes with one, it’s reasonable to question what they are actually looking for.

8. He Makes You Feel Guilty for Having Boundaries

A healthy partner can hear “no” without turning it into a personal attack.

A man who is using someone may react very differently.

You say you can’t lend him money, and suddenly you’re “selfish.”

You say you don’t want to do something, and he says you don’t care about him.

You ask him to contribute more, and he tells you that you’re being difficult.

You ask for basic respect, and he acts as though you’re demanding too much.

This can gradually train a woman to ignore her own boundaries just to avoid conflict.

She starts thinking:

“Maybe I’m being unreasonable.”

“Maybe I should just help him.”

“Maybe he’ll appreciate me eventually.”

“Maybe saying no will make him leave.”

But boundaries aren’t punishments.

They’re a way of protecting your time, energy, money, emotional well-being, and personal limits.

Someone who genuinely values you may not always agree with your boundaries, but they should respect your right to have them.

9. You Feel Drained More Often Than You Feel Loved

Perhaps the biggest sign isn’t something he says or does.

It’s how the relationship consistently makes you feel.

Do you feel appreciated?

Do you feel respected?

Do you feel emotionally safe?

Do you feel like your effort matters?

Or do you constantly feel exhausted, confused, anxious, and unappreciated?

A relationship isn’t supposed to be perfect. Every couple has disagreements, difficult periods, misunderstandings, and moments when one person needs more support than the other.

But over time, there should still be a sense of mutual care.

If you’re constantly giving while he is constantly taking, eventually your emotional energy will run out.

And sometimes that exhaustion is your mind recognizing something your heart has been trying to ignore.

The Most Important Thing to Remember

Being generous doesn’t make you foolish.

Being loving doesn’t make you weak.

Giving someone another chance doesn’t make you naive.

The problem begins when someone learns that your kindness has no limits and starts taking advantage of it.

You don’t need to prove your worth by doing more and more for someone who gives less and less in return.

You don’t have to keep paying the bill just because you’re afraid he’ll leave.

You don’t have to keep solving his problems because you hope he’ll eventually appreciate you.

You don’t have to accept inconsistent affection simply because the good moments feel incredibly intense.

And you certainly don’t have to remain in a relationship where you constantly feel like you have to earn someone’s attention.

Real love isn’t supposed to feel like a transaction.

It isn’t, “I’ll give you affection if you give me something.”

It isn’t, “I’ll be nice to you because I need a favor.”

It isn’t, “I’ll promise you everything today so you’ll stay, then forget about it tomorrow.”

A healthy relationship is built on mutual respect, honesty, effort, trust, and consideration.

Sometimes the hardest part is admitting that someone isn’t loving you in the way you hoped they would.

But recognizing the pattern can also be incredibly freeing.

Because once you stop focusing only on what someone says and start watching what they consistently do, the picture often becomes much clearer.

And if a man repeatedly shows you that he values what you can provide more than who you are, you don’t have to convince him to appreciate you.

You can simply decide that you deserve a relationship where appreciation is already there.
